On December 19, 2011, United Nations General Assembly adopted RESOLUTION 66/170 to declare October 11 as the International Day of the Girl, to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. The International Day of the Girl Child focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.”

Sisters Journeying Together was birth from my book “Mommy, I Need You! It is about the sexual abuse I suffered at the hands of a next-door neighbor and the healing power I experienced. Its mission is to assist young girls in finding their voices and healing from distorted thinking, low self-esteem, and negative images. Also, provide a safe place for personal growth and leadership.

Our plan is to serve your community of girls (K-12) on the International Day of the Girl by offering a free service at any venue that best suits your needs. It can be online or in person, a classroom, assembly, or afterschool event. On this day, speakers, readers, and those who can speak about their career paths will present. The topics are self-esteem, self- image, affirmation, commitment, and conflict resolution. Women will also share the different career paths (including STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) taken to empower themselves and others.

The plan is to coordinate with 20 organizations and or schools, and afterschool programs who would like to participate in the event. Also, to blast on social media that day posting our thoughts. Please see attached. The focus topic is below:

1. Self-Esteem and Self-Image

Low self-esteem is a thinking disorder in which an individual views him/herself as inadequate, unlovable, and/or incompetent. Once formed, this negative view permeates every thought, producing faulty assumptions and ongoing self-defeating behavior.

  1. Valuing Yourself
  2. Understanding Your Worth

2. Affirmations:

An affirmation is usually a sentence, a sentence of powerful words put together, like a positive statement, and this sentence is aimed to tap into your conscious and unconscious mind to motivate you, challenge you, to push you to reach your full potential in life.

  1. Importance of affirmations
  2. Living Your Values

3. Conflict Resolution:

“Conflict is inherently uncomfortable for most of us, in both personal and professional contexts, but effectively learning to handle conflicts in a productive, healthy way is essential.”

  1. Understanding what we are feeling (use a feeling chart)
  2. Strategies for Resolving Conflict

*The subjects can be tackled by reading a favorite book, presenting how you chose your career path, creating a PowerPoint, and using a video to address the chosen topic.
